In the past, almost every aquarium owner has caught water fleas in the wild to give to their fish. Today this is often prohibited for conservation reasons, and many waters are so heavily polluted that it is not safe to fish for food. JBL uses reliable suppliers who have legal access to absolutely clean waters with safe aquatic daphnia populations. Water fleas are stored by sun drying and packaged immediately after capture. This preserves their valuable ingredients and dietary fibre, which are beneficial to the diet of ornamental fish. Water fleas (Daphnia): grow to 1-5 mm and belong biologically to Branchiopoda and therefore to the freshwater plankton of stagnant waters. They do not belong to the gammari, growing up to 2 cm in length, which look completely different, tend to live in flowing waters and belong to the amphipods. Cyclops, on the other hand, are much smaller (0.5-1 mm) and belong to the copepods. To expand the diet of ornamental fish, supplementing their main diet with freeze-dried foods is recommended.
