Regular water change Food, plant residues and metabolic products contaminate aquarium water. Since aquarium filters cannot completely remove these substances from the water and much of the waste enters the bottom of the aquarium, regular partial water changes (about every 2 weeks 1/3 of the water content) should be carried out. Always suck the waste out of the substrate when performing a partial water change. After a partial water change, a good water conditioner such as JBL Biotopol is vital to prepare the new tap water for the fish. Easy to use: Hook the gravel cleaner into the aquarium, using your mouth to briefly suck out one end of the hose and hold the other end of the hose in the bucket. The water then drains into the bucket. Clean the bottom with the gravel cleaner. To finish, simply remove the gravel cleaner from the water. Tip: To avoid water ingestion, you can also hold the entire hose under water until it fills up, then pinch the end until it is above the bucket again. Then the water will continue to flow on its own. How to properly clean the bottom of the aquarium: Press the gravel cleaner into the aquarium substrate in a circular motion. The suction pulls the base and dirt in the grit cleaner upwards. The substrate falls back under its own weight and only the dirt is sucked out of the aquarium. With fine sand, you can adjust the suction by lifting the grit cleaner so that the light sand also falls back down. A sieve in the bell of the cleaning unit prevents accidental suction of fish and shrimps. The sieve can be removed for cleaning. If you have a long-lasting substrate fertilizer under the gravel cover (e.g. JBL PROFLORA AQUA BASIS), do not place the gravel cleaner far away. Place it only as deep as the covering substrate layer.
