The composition of the ideal food for rearing young fish is based on various factors. Young fish grow and need important nutrients for their development. Essential vitamins are needed to strengthen their immune system. With young fish it is very important that the size of the food matches the size of their mouth. It’s better to feed a meal that’s too small than one that’s too big! Adequate dietary phosphate is essential for the formation of healthy bones. Too little phosphate and calcium will lead to bone deformities. When the young fish are large enough, the addition of live artemia (shrimp) is ideal. Juvenile fish of egg-laying species are much smaller after hatching and initially feed on infusoria (microorganisms) they find in the environment.
